No. 20 Tar Heels Host ECU, Visit UNCW This Week

CHAPEL HILL --- No. 20 North Carolina plays its final non-conference games of the year this week when the Tar Heels face No. 21 East Carolina and UNCW. The Tar Heels host the Pirates on Tuesday at 6 p.m. before traveling to Wilmington for a 6 p.m. start on Wednesday. UNC is 30-17 on the year after a 2-2 week with wins over VCU and No. 5 Louisville. ECU is 30-16-1 after sweeping UConn in Storrs, while UNCW is 33-11 following a home series win over Charleston.

NORTH CAROLINA-EAST CAROLINA SERIES HISTORY
• North Carolina is 51-27 all-time against East Carolina, including a 20-5 record under head coach Mike Fox.
• With 78 prior meetings, East Carolina is UNC's most common non-conference opponent since the Tar Heels joined the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1953. Carolina has played Davidson 110 times, but many of those games came either prior to formal conference affiliation or when both schools were members of the Southern Conference.
• UNC took the first meeting this season 17-4 in Greenville. The Tar Heels scored a season-high 17 runs to snap a two-game losing streak in the series.
• Carolina and ECU did not play in 2015. The Pirates swept a pair of games in 2014, winning 3-2 in Greenville and 1-0 in Chapel Hill. The win in Greenville was ECU's first in the series in five years.
• The UNC-ECU series has been full of memorable moments in recent seasons. Fox's first win as the head coach of North Carolina came against the Pirates in 1999, while the Tar Heels have faced ECU in NCAA tournament play four times since 2007, winning all four.
NORTH CAROLINA-UNCW SERIES HISTORY
• North Carolina is 57-13 all-time against UNCW, including a 20-4 record against the Seahawks under Mike Fox.
• UNC took the first meeting of the year 10-9 on April 26. Kyle Datres drew a bases-loaded walk in the ninth to win it.
• Carolina swept a pair of games in 2015, including a memorable 6-5 victory in 12 innings in Wilmington. The Tar Heels also won the return game in Chapel Hill by a 7-2 score.
• UNC has won 17 of the last 18 meetings in the series, with UNCW's lone win during that stretch coming in Chapel Hill in 2013. Carolina had won 13 straight prior to the 2013 loss, including a pair of wins over the Seahawks in the 2008 NCAA Cary Regional.
• Assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Scott Jackson spent five seasons as an assistant at UNCW from 2003 to 2007.
