Tar Heel Doubles Team Falls In NCAA Quarterfinals
May 28, 2016 | Men's Tennis
A historic season came to an end Saturday as UNC 's Jack Murray and Brayden Schnur fell in the NCAA Men's Tennis Doubles Tournament quarterfinals in Tulsa, Okla. The Tar Heels were ousted 6-2, 7-6(7) by David Biosca and Rogerio Ribeiro of East Tennessee State, but not before earning All-America honors by being one of the last eight doubles teams standing at Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Murray and Schnur were the first Carolina team to reach the quarterfinals since 2010 and Schnur became just the third player in program history to earn All-America honors in three seasons.
“I'm really proud of those guys,” UNC coach Sam Paul said following the match. “I'm happy for them to have earned All-America honors – Brayden is only the third in the history of our program to do that three times and for Jack to earn it too is fantastic.”
Ronnie Schneider, another member of the junior class, also earned All-America honors by reaching the Round of 16 in singles play.
“It's great to have had three players earn All-America honors out here,” Paul said from Tulsa. “Credit to those guys – they played so hard in the team tournament and to bounce back and play well in the individual tournament was great.”
