UNC Jumps Nine Spots To 6th At NCAA Stanford Regional

STANFORD, Cali. -- The University of North Carolina women's golf team shot 5-over par 289 in the second round of the NCAA Stanford Regional on Saturday. The team jumped from 15th to 6th in the 18-team field.
"The team played with a lot of determination and heart today going from 15th to 6th place," head coach Jan Mann said. "The competition is very tight. Tomorrow will be a day where we will need to play to move up the leaderboard and not protect 6th place. We have a lot of confidence in them. We're looking forward to opportunity tomorrow."
Senior Elizabeth Mallett posted a 1-under par 71 on the day. She carded three birdies and two bogeys in the round and is tied for 14th among individuals. Also tied for 14th is junior Leslie Cloots who also shot 1-under par in the second round. Cloots had three birdies and two bogeys on her scorecard. Sophomore Bryana Nguyen improved tremendously from the first round to the second. Nguyen shot 3-over par 74. Freshman Kelly Whaley finished at 4-over par 75 and is tied for 30th individually. Lexi Harkins finished the round at 8-over.
Leading the field is host Stanford at 1-over par. USC is 3-over and in second. In third are Ohio State and Virginia at 16-over par. Arkansas is in fifth at 21-over par. Carolina is in sixth at 23-over par.
