Holness Back With Jamaican National Team
September 6, 2016 | Men's Soccer
Omar Holness, a former North Carolina men's soccer standout and current Real Salt Lake midfielder in MLS, has been called back for another round with the Jamaican national team for Group B CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying.
Jamaica hosts Caribbean neighbors Haiti Tuesday night at the National Stadium in Kingston. Kick-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Both teams' World Cup dreams came to an end last Friday, as Costa Rica and Panama are the two sides from the group that will move to the final round of qualifying.
Head coach Winfried Schaefer has said publicly that fringe players, which could include Holness, are likely to get opportunities against the Haitians.
Holness was rostered during the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup last summer when the Reggae Boyz reached the championship match. On Sept. 9, 2014, Holness made his senior debut in friendly against Canada.
He has also represented Jamaica in both the under-17 and under-20 levels.
