Aney/Carter Win Doubles Crown In Las Vegas
January 16, 2017 | Women's Tennis
The top seed and ranked #2 in the country, Aney and Carter had to win two matches on Sunday to secure the title. First came a 6-2 dismantling of Chalena Scholl and Kaitlyn McCarthy of Duke.
Then, the marquee matchup of the tournament saw Aney and Carter take down third ranked Mayar Sherif Ahmed and Christine Maddox of Pepperdine, 7-6.
Back in the fall, Aney and Carter won the national championship at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championship in Pacific Palisades, California.
Carter was the defending champion at the Freeman Memorial in both singles and doubles. She combined with former teammate Whitney in 2016 to win the doubles title.
North Carolina begins its dual match season this coming Saturday with a doubleheader from Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The Tar Heels host Ball State at 10 a.m. and UNCG at 4 p.m.
