October 11, 2017 | Field Hockey
North Carolina's Ashley Hoffman has been selected as the National Defensive Player of the Week following UNC's 4-0 shutout of No. 3 Virginia last Friday. The junior back from Mohnton, Pa., anchored the Tar Heel defense as UNC held the nation's top-scoring team without a goal.

Hoffman also scored the goal what proved to be the gamewinner, on a penalty corner just before halftime. This fall she leads UNC in goals with nine and points with 23.
Â
Connecticut senior forward Charlotte Veitner joined Hoffman as the  Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I weekly award winners.
Â
Next up for the Tar Heels is a game against No. 11 Louisville on Saturday in Durham, N.C. Game time at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium is 1 p.m. UNC plays back-to-back games this weekend, traveling to face VCU in Richmond, Va., on Sunday.
