Tar Heels Advance At ITA All-American Championships

Tar Heels William Blumberg and Robert Kelly advanced Friday at the 2017 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., teaming to reach the quarterfinals in doubles as Blumberg also earned a spot in the singles Round of 16.

Blumberg and Kelly, the nation's No. 5 doubles team in the fall rankings, advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Oklahoma State's Julian Cash and Maxim Tybar. Saturday they'll meet Texas's Yuya Ito and Harrison Scott for a spot in the semis.

Blumberg advanced to the Round of 16 in singles with a straight-sets win over Wake Forest's Christian Seraphim. He won 6-3, 6-4 and will face Oklahoma's Ferran Calvo on Saturday.

Singles quarterfinalists, doubles semifinalists and consolation finalists (singles and doubles) will receive an automatic entry into the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships on Nov. 1-5, held at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa in Palm Desert, Calif., and the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif.

This is the 13th consecutive year that the University of Tulsa has hosted this tournament. Main draw action takes place on the courts of the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
