Tar Heels Ink Duo For 2018-19

CHAPEL HILL - The North Carolina women's golf team has signed Jennifer Zhou and Nicole Lu to National Letters of Intent to attend the University of North Carolina and play for the Tar Heels, head coach Jan Mann announced Tuesday. Zhou, hailing from Longwood, Fla., is the eighth-ranked player in the class of 2018 by the American Junior Golf Association. Lu, a native of Taipei, Taiwan, is the 68th ranked player in the class.
"We are extremely excited to have Nicole and Jennifer join our team," Mann said. "They have proven success in the classroom and on the golf course and will be great additions to the team. Nicole is currently attending the Gilchrest Academy where she has received excellent instruction. Her future is going to be very bright at UNC. Jennifer is one of the top players in the class of 2018. She has extensive tournament experience and success. We are looking forward to the talent and depth that they will bring to the program."
Zhou started her golf career at 13 in China before moving to the U.S. and attending the Mike Bender Golf Academy. She has led Lake Mary Prep to two state titles ('14, '15) in addition to winning the 2017 Insperity Invitational AJGA Junior Championship in June. She had two runner-up AJGA finishes in 2016 and has placed in the top-five of AJGA events seven times in her career.
Lu won of the 2017 Gary Gilchrist Award and was named the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy Sportswoman of the Year in 2016. She was also named to the AJGA Transamerica Scholastic Honor Roll for 2017. She has a combined 20 top-five finishes in AJGA, Future Collegians World Tour, Hurricane Junior Golf Tour and International Junior Golf Tour events since 2016.
