River Landing Classic

Ocano Records First Top Five Finish

Wallace, N.C. – Mariana Ocano used three birdies on Friday to finish the River Landing Classic tied for fourth. Ocano shot a 1-over par 73 and finished the tournament at 3-over par overall. The result is the best individual finish Ocano has had in her first year as a member of the team.
Carolina also had junior Cheni Xu, junior Rachel Jones, and freshman Roshnee Sharma competing as individuals. Xu shot a 4-over par 76 to finish tied for 11th at 6-over par. Jones and Sharma both shot 80s to finish tied for 36th and 53rd respectively.
The Tar Heels did not take part in the team competition, won by Penn State.
Hee Ying Loy of East Tennessee State won the individual medal finishing the tournament 3-under par. She won by five shots over Jackie Rogowicz of Penn State and Hailey Hrynewich of Ohio, Ocano and Kate Granahan of Penn State rounded on the rest of the top five.
Next up for the Tar Heels is the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Hawaii. The team will compete next Tuesday and Wednesday, March 14th and 15th as they continue their spring season.
