March 7, 2017 | Women's Gymnastics
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – A freshman from Concord, Mass., Khazia Hislop earned Rookie of the Week honors from the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) for the fifth time this season after Saturday's road win against William & Mary.
In the third meeting between the Tar Heels and the Tribe, William & Mary hosted Carolina gymnastics for the first time this season. The Heels swept William & Mary in their match-ups: 195.675 – 193.025, 195.625 – 191.250, and 194.075 – 192.875 most recently. Though the overall scores were closer this past weekend, Carolina had some huge performances and continued to rely on some of their most consistent gymnasts including Hislop.
Hislop placed first in both of her events, receiving a top score of 9.875 on floor and tying William & Mary's Briana Gironda with a score of 9.850 on beam. On floor, Hislop's performance made Saturday's competition the seventh meet in a row where the freshman earned a score of at least 9.850. Additionally, her routine on beam extended her streak of scoring at least 9.800 to six consecutive weeks. She has scored no less than 9.775 on beam in all but the first competition of the season.
Carolina gymnastics will compete this Sunday against UCLA in their final meet leading up to the EAGL Championship. The competition is set to start at 12 p.m. (ET) in Los Angeles, California.
