Tar Heel men's soccer standouts Cam Lindley and John Nelson were included in the 2017 Preseason Best XI teams by TopDrawerSoccer.com on Monday.

Lindley, a sophomore midfielder from Carmel, Indiana, lands on the TDS first team. Already listed on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List heading into his second campaign in Chapel Hill, Lindley was named second team All-America and TopDrawerSoccer's National Freshman of the Year after an outstanding rookie season that saw him start all 21 matches for a Tar Heel club that reached the 2016 College Cup.

A freshman defender from Medina, Ohio, Nelson earned a spot on the Best XI Freshman Team. He was the No. 1 player in the 2017 signing class by College Soccer News. The U.S. National Team participant was a two-time NSCAA Youth Boys All-American selection in both 2015 and 2016.

The No. 4 Tar Heels open the season this Friday against No. 12 Providence at Elon University's Rudd Field at 7:30 p.m.
