Tar Heel Trio Named To All-ACC Academic Team

Three North Carolina volleyball players have been named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team, announced Wednesday by the league. Tar Heels named to the squad, which recognizes combined academic and athletic performance, were senior Beth Nordhorn, junior Taylor Leath and redshirt freshman Katharine Esterley.

Nordhorn, from Winter Park, Fla., is majoring in exercise and sport science. Leath, from Port Matilda, Pa., is majoring in political science. Esterley, from Chapel Hill, has not yet declared a major.

Leath, who was honored for the second year in a row, and Nordhorn were among 28 team members who also earned All-ACC recognition for 2017.

Miami's Olga Strantzali was honored as the 2017 ACC Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

To be considered for the All-ACC Academic teams, conference student-athletes must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average for the fall semester, as well as a cumulative 3.0 over the course of their college careers.
