No. 3 Tar Heels Host No. 14 UNCW Tuesday Night

No. 3 Heels Take On No. 14 Seahawks
• No. 3 North Carolina will host No. 14 UNCW for the sixth year in a row with the two sides splitting the last six meetings 3-3.
• UNCW and the Heels split last years meetings with the Seahawks winning the regular season battle in Wilmington and the Tar Heels taking the post season matchup in Cary.
• The last time UNC lost as the home side was a 1-0 defeat in 2013.
Montesdeoca Leads Tar Heels past Tigers
• For the second consecutive game, Gio Montesdeoca led the Tar Heels to a ACC win, this time it was against the Clemson Tigers.
• Scoring in the first and second half, Montesdeoca now leads the team with five goals, with three of those coming in the last two gamses.
• Carolina's defense also completed its third straight shutout to give them five in eight games.
Suffocating Defense
• In six of its last seven games, the Tar Heel defense has not allowed their opponents to register more than four total shots or more than three shots on goal.
• Against No. 2 Indiana, the Tar Heels held the Hoosiers to 3 total shots, the least amount in any game for Indiana in 2004, with only two being on goal.
• Carolina followed up that performance by only allowing three shots with one on goal against William & Mary in the third game of the season.
• Against Jacksonville, Carolina held the Dolphins to 2 total shots and no shots on goal.
• The Tar Heels held Davidson to only 4 total shots with 3 of them being on goal.
• The most impressive performance might be against No. 8 Notre Dame when the Heels only allowed 3 total shots, with no shots on goal in 105 minutes.
• UNC held Clemson to 4 total shots and only one on goal for its third consecutive shutout.
• Currently, the Tar Heels have kept clean sheets for the last 3 games, and have shut out five of their eight games. With the three shutouts, the Heels currently have a 383 minute shutout streak
• After the last two games against Notre Dame and Clemson, the Tar Heels have only allowed one shot on goal and that was to the Tigers in the second half.
• The Tar Heels have only allowed one first half goal this season which came on Sept. 8 against Pittsburgh.
• In ACC play, the Tar Heels lead the ACC in goals against average (0.29) having only conceded one goal in 305 minutes during ACC play.
Montesdeoca Named ACC Offensive Player Of The Week
• Gio Montesdeoca was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week for week 4 after scoring the game-winning goal at No. 8 Notre Dame.
Tar Heels Shutout Fighting Irish
• No. 3 North Carolina came away with a big ACC road win at No. 8 Notre Dame on Friday, Sept. 21. The 1-0 win in 2OT pushed the Heels to 2-0 in the conference.
• Gio Montesdeoca's goal in the 105th minute was his third of the season, tying him for first with Mauricio Pineda and Nils Bruening.
• Although Carolina needed double overtime to take the win, they dominated across the board. They outshot the Fighting Irish 15-3 and didn't allow one shot on goal from Notre Dame. They also led in corner kicks 7-2.
• With the OT win, the Heels are now unbeaten in their last 11 matches that have gone in to extra time.
