Michelin Earns Top-15 Finish, Men Upset Two More Top-30 Teams
October 12, 2018 | Cross Country
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — In the last meet of the regular season, the North Carolina cross country programs fought their way through the Penn State course and proved their teams are making moves in the right direction.
Following a stunning finish in Beantown, the men's cross country team came out ready to back up their performances. This time, the men bested not one but two top-30 teams, including Iona (#27) and ACC rival Virginia Tech (#30), with junior Jeremy Brown leading the pack with a 37th-place time of 25:44.
The Carolina's men's team finished the race together and, for the most part, ended the race together as the top four finishers crossed the line within five seconds of each other. Following Brown, redshirt sophomore Alex Milligan, redshirt sophomore Mitch Resor and graduate student Nick Golebiowski clocked in mere seconds apart — Milligan in 25:47 for 43rd, Resor in 25:48 for 45th and Golebiowski in 25:49 for 47th. Redshirt sophomore Matt Thornton followed in 59th place and finished the course in 26:01 to round out UNC's score.
On the women's team, freshman Enyaeva Michelin continues to make a name for herself in collegiate cross country as she earned the top spot for Carolina for the third consecutive meet. Michelin finished 14th out of 289 runners in her first ever collegiate 6K competition, an amazing feat by any athlete let alone a first-year student. The other four scorers for Carolina all crossed the finish line over a 30-second span. Redshirt senior Casey Greenwalt ran 21:57 for 104th and freshman Camryn Petit placed 124th with a time of 22:12. Sophomore Lindsey Lanier clocked in at 22:19 for 136th and junior Erin Edmundson finished 142nd in 22:26.
Next Up: The University of North Carolina cross country teams return to Jamaica Plain, Mass. for the 2018 ACC Cross Country Championships. The women's postseason 6K competition is set for 10 a.m. and the men will line up afterwards for an 11 a.m. 8K start.
