Tar Heels Back in Boston for ACC XC Championships

JAMAICA PLAIN, Mass. - The University of North Carolina cross country teams will return to Franklin Park in Jamaica Plain, Mass. for the second time this season. After a hopeful performance at the Battle in Beantown, the Tar Heels are looking to have another standout performance in Boston as they kickoff their postseason run at the ACC Championships.
The women's 6k will begin at 10 a.m. with the men set to start their 8k run just one hour later at 11 a.m.

Ranked teams include Syracuse (#10), Virginia (#14) and Notre Dame (#15) on the men's side with NC State also receiving votes. The women's conference competition will feature five top 30 programs — NC State (#12), Notre Dame (#18), Georgia Tech (#22), Syracuse (#25) and Florida State (#29).
ACC CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES
• Carolina has won the ACC Men's Championship nine times, the third most titles in the league. The men last captured the title in 1985.
• Fourteen Tar Heels on the men's side have captured the ACC Individual title - the most in the league and most recently in 1997 when John Cline win in 25:06.6.
• Carolina has won the ACC Women's Championship four times, the third most titles in the conference. The women most recently captured the title in 2014.
• Eight Tar Heels on the women's side have won the individual title - second most in the ACC, and most recently in 2011 when Kendra Schaaf won in 19:45.3.
• In 2017, both teams finished 11th at the ACC Championships.
PENN STATE NATIONAL XC OPEN RECAP
Following a stunning finish in Beantown, the men's cross country team came out ready to back up their performances. This time, the men bested not one but two top-30 teams, including Iona (#27) and ACC rival Virginia Tech (#30), with junior Jeremy Brown leading the pack with a 37th-place time of 25:44.
The Carolina's men's team finished the race together and, for the most part, ended the race together as the top four finishers crossed the line within five seconds of each other. Following Brown, redshirt sophomore Alex Milligan, redshirt sophomore Mitch Resor and graduate student Nick Golebiowski clocked in mere seconds apart — Milligan in 25:47 for 43rd, Resor in 25:48 for 45th and Golebiowski in 25:49 for 47th. Redshirt sophomore Matt Thornton followed in 59th place and finished the course in 26:01 to round out UNC's score.
On the women's team, freshman Enyaeva Michelin continues to make a name for herself in collegiate cross country as she earned the top spot for Carolina for the third consecutive meet. Michelin finished 14th out of 289 runners in her first ever collegiate 6K competition, an amazing feat by any athlete let alone a first-year student. The other four scorers for Carolina all crossed the finish line over a 30-second span. Redshirt senior Casey Greenwalt ran 21:57 for 104th and freshman Camryn Petit placed 124th with a time of 22:12. Sophomore Lindsey Lanier clocked in at 22:19 for 136th and junior Erin Edmundson finished 142nd in 22:26.
BATTLE IN BEANTOWN RECAP
The North Carolina men's team pulled off a big upset over No. 12 Campbell in the men's 8K competition at the Battle in Beantown. Though they finished fifth of 23 teams, the Tar Heel men only finished behind men's programs ranked in the top-30. Missing two of their top performers, the women's team pushed through the 5K course to take 14th out of 24 teams.
Carolina's top two men's finishers, graduate student Nick Golebiowski and redshirt sophomore Mitch Resor, both set new personal records in 8K competition. Golebiowki ran 24:31.9 for 16th in his first race for UNC and Resor clocked in a time of 24:34.2 for 20th-place. Junior Jeremy Brown and redshirt sophomores Brodie Modini and Alex Milligan also contributed to Carolina's fifth-place finish. Brown finished in 27th place with a time of 24:45.3 and Brodie Modini ran a career-best time of 25:03.1 for 41st. Milligan wrapped up the Tar Heels' scoring with a 51st-place finish in his first collegiate 8K appearance, running the course in 25:14.9.
Freshman Enyaeva Michelin was once again the top finisher for North Carolina's women's cross country team. Michelin scored 31 points for UNC after clocking in at 17:52.6 in the women's 5K. Redshirt senior Casey Greenwalt , juniors Erin Edmundson and Ashley Smith and freshman Camryn Petit finished within 20 places of each other. Greenwalt took 83rd with a time of 18:25.5, Edmundson 88th with 18:31.6, Smith 93rd with a personal-best 18:35.2 and Petit 103rd with 18:37.8.
CHARLOTTE OPENER RECAP
Debuting a new roster and a new coach, Carolina managed to take home two second-place finishes after the men scored 38 points and the women tallied 40 at the Charlotte Opener in Concord, N.C.
Mitch Resor, the top scorer for UNC's men's team, clocked in at 15:23.5 to finish third in his first appearance of the season. The other four scorers all crossed the finish line within three seconds of each other. Jeremy Brown, Brodie Modini and Ian Moini earned fifth-, sixth-, and seventh-place honors with respective times of 15:34.1, 15:34.5 and 15:26.1 while Matt Thornton followed closely behind in 11th after running the 5K course in a time of 15:27.1.
In the women's 5K competition, four Tar Heels also finished among the top-10. Freshman Enyaeva Michelin placed fifth with a time of 18:41.4 and teammates Erin Edmundson and Casey Greenwalt finished in 18:46.1 and 18:46.7 for sixth and seventh place.
