UNC Fourth In Fall Opener At Head of the Charles
October 20, 2018 | Women's Rowing
North Carolina opened the fall racing season Saturday at the Head of the Charles Regatta, where the Tar Heels placed fourth in the women's club eights event.
The Tar Heels were initially sixth, but two crews in front of them were disqualified, bumping the Tar Heels up.Â
Â
Racing for Carolina were junior coxswain  Sofia Triana, senior Maria Marroquin, senior Elizabeth Farley, junior Melanie Hussey, senior Paige Colpo, junior Bridget Tarnowski, sophomore Lauren Ferner, junior Abby Hudspeth and junior Sally Stanley.
Â
"I am so proud of how this team raced today," UNC coach Sarah Haney said. "They were long and in control throughout the race. This is a coxswain's race and Sofia did a fantastic job with her course as well."

The race, a two-day event that draws more than 11,000 competitors , was the kick off to the fall season for UNC. The Tar Heels were scheduled to race at Duke last Saturday but the competition was canceled due to debris in the water following Hurricane Michael.
Â
'We have been held off the water more often than normal due to Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Michael, and we just wanted to get out there and see what we can do," Haney said.
Â
Next up for the Tar Heels is the Princeton Chase Oct. 28 in Princeton, N.J.
