CHAPEL HILL—On a historic day for the North Carolina field hockey program, the Tar Heels accomplished a feat they hadn't achieved in six years by winning their fifth conference game.
Before Saturday's game against Wake Forest, coach Karen Shelton, her players, University officials and program supporters gathered for the official dedication of Karen Shelton Stadium, the first UNC athletic playing facility to be named in honor of a woman.
Meanwhile, baseball continued its fall ball and Michael Busch picked up where he left off last spring. Ryan Gerard had a record-breaking day on Monday for the men's golf team, men's soccer won its seventh in a row and remained unbeaten in Atlantic Coast Conference play and women's soccer swept a two-game road trip. The swimming and diving teams defeated East Carolina, and Makenna Jones was on fire for women's tennis in California.
