ROANOKE, Va. --- Eight members of the North Carolina wrestling team placed at the Hokie Open on Sunday to open the 2018-19 season. The Tar Heels were led by runner-up finishes from A.C. Headlee at 141 pounds, Kennedy Monday at 157, Devin Kane at 174 and Cory Daniel at 285.

Chip Ness (third place, 184), Austin O'Connor (third place, 149), Josh McClure (fifth place, 165) and Chasen Blair (fifth place, 184) also had strong finishes for Carolina on the day.

Brandon Whitman, who wrestled unattached Sunday, grabbed the title at 197 pounds.

The Tar Heels will continue the season next weekend as the team travels to Chattanooga for a 2 p.m. dual on Sunday, November 11.
