December 17, 2018 | Men's Soccer
North Carolina seniors Nils Bruening, Alex Comsia and James Pyle were selected as three of the initial 60 players to attend the 2019 adidas MLS Player Combine in Orlando, Fla., from Jan.3-9. The league will hold its annual combine with representatives from all 24 MLS clubs scouting the top college prospects ahead of the MLS SuperDraft in Chicago on Friday, Jan. 11.
Pyle, a native of Charlotte, N.C., put together one of the best careers in the net for the Heels in recent memory. Leading the ACC in goals against average in 2018 (0.51), he held nine shutouts this season en route to being named first-team All-ACC.
Bruening, a native of Hamburg, Germany, put together an impressive senior season after missing 2017 due to injury. The first-team All-ACC midfielder finished third on the team in points (16) with six goals and four assists, and led the team in shots with 41.
Comsia was named ACC Defender of the Year and a first-team All-American after leading the Tar Heels to one of the best defenses in the country. A three-team All-ACC member, Comsia was tied for third on the team in minutes and was also a Senior CLASS Award finalist and MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist.
