Highlighting Rowers' Research For #WomenInScience Day
February 12, 2018 | Women's Rowing
In honor of Women in Science Day on Feb. 11, here's a look at research being conducted by two seniors on the Carolina rowing team.
Â
Emma Gilbert is from Kill Devil Hills, N.C., and is majoring in exercise and sport science. She is conducting research on athlete burnout through the Department of Exercise and Sport Science with Dr. J.D. DeFreese . She is looking at biometric data in undergraduates in a club sport to see if the quality and quantity of sleep correlates with sport burnout and susceptibility. She will be presenting her work at the Undergraduate Research Convention in April.
Â
Mandi Biondi is from Denver, N.C., and is working toward a double major in biology and psychology. She is working with Dr. Richard Sutherland in the UNC School of Medicine to develop tools for teaching research, including a manuscript that was submitted to the Journal of Pediatric Urology. She also is helping to create video modules for CEVL (computer enhanced visual learning), which include step-by-step instruction for residents and trainees in performing pediatric urology surgery.
