
Carolina Drops Game Two In Louisville, 6-4

Louisville, Ky. – No. 13 North Carolina falls short against No. 8 Louisville in game two of the three-game series, 6-4, at Jim Patterson Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Game three will take place at 12 p.m. ET tomorrow as the Heels look to pick up its first ACC win of the season.
For the second game in a row the Tar Heels jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before the Cardinals answered back with a three-run inning of its own to take the 3-2 advantage.
In the top of the third inning back-to-back singles from Zack Gahagan and Ike Freeman was followed by a walk from Brandon Riley to load the bases with one out for Kyle Datres. Datres, who leads the team in batting average, smacked a single to left field to bring home Gahagan and Freeman before getting tagged out at second base.
In the bottom half of the third, Justin Lavey started the inning with a single down the third base line that Datres kept in the infield to prevent the double. With walks to Ethan Stringer and Jake Snider the bases were loaded for Devin Mann who took a 3-2 pitch to left center to clear the bases for the 3-2 lead.
Lavey got things started again in the fourth inning with a one out double to left field for the Cardinals before he was brought home on a Stringer single to left for the 4-2 lead. After another single from Josh Stowers put runners on first and second, Snider hit a double to left to clear the bases and give the Cardinals a 6-2 lead.
The Tar Heels would respond with a run of its own in the sixth after Brandon Martorano hit a double to the fence to score Cody Roberts from first. Roberts led off the inning with a single as the Heels went in to the bottom of the sixth trailing, 6-3.
The Heels kept chipping away at the Cardinals lead in the eighth as they scored one more to keep themselves in striking distance at 6-4. In his first at bat of the game, Ben Casparius lined a ball up the middle to score Michael Busch from second to give the Heels its fourth run of the game.
In the top of the ninth with Datres on first, Busch got a hold of a ball that looked like it might clear the fence, but it was caught on the warning track as the Heels fell to the Cardinals, 6-4.
