Jones Secures Win Over Wake Forest, 5-2

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina - Sophomore Makenna Jones won the clinching match to help No. 1 North Carolina post a 5-2 victory over No. 19 Wake Forest on Thursday evening in an Atlantic Coast Conference women's tennis match from the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
North Carolina (18-2, 7-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) picked up the doubles point thanks to the deciding win on court three courtesy of a new pairing of Marika Akkerman and Chloe Ouellet-Pizer. After Makenna Jones and Alle Sanford won 6-2 on court two, Akkerman and Ouellet-Pizer, playing together for the first time this spring, held on for a 7-5 win.
In singles, No. 47 Jessie Aney cruised to a straight set win on court five. No. 27 Sara Daavettila made it 3-0 Tar Heels after her opponent, Anna Ulyashchenko, retired from the match after Daavetilla won the opening set, 6-3.
Jones secured the UNC win after a 6-2, 6-2, victory over No. 32 Emma Davis on court one. Wake Forest (15-6, 4-4) picked up two singles wins, before No. 70 Alexa Graham won a third-set super breaker on court two over No. 94 Eliza Omirou to close out the match.
Carolina takes the court next Friday at Notre Dame at 4 p.m. and then at Louisville on Sunday at 11 a.m.
