Tar Heels Beat Clemson 4-1 In First Spring Game
March 4, 2018 | Men's Soccer
North Carolina kicked off its spring season with a 4-1 win over Clemson on Sunday in Chapel Hill at the grass fields at Finley South. The Carolina offense picked up right where it left off last season as the top scoring team in the country thanks to goals by Mauricio Pineda, Jack Skahan Lucas del Rosario and Jelani Pieters.
Carolina jumped out to the early 2-0 lead with two goals in the first twenty minutes from Pineda and Skahan as they took that lead to halftime. But, Clemson kept it close and cut the lead in half with a penalty kick to make it 2-1 before the Heels pulled away.
Del Rosario doubled the Tar Heels lead in the second half before Pieters put the game out of reach as the Heels won 4-1 over a tough Clemson squad that reached the NCAA Tournament last season.
Next up for Carolina, they will travel to Washington, D.C. to take on Georgetown on Saturday, March 24 at 3 p.m.
