Tar Heel Doubles Team Takes Over Top Spot
April 10, 2018 | Men's Tennis
The UNC doubles team of senior Robert Kelly and sophomore William Blumberg has moved to the top of the latest Oracle/ITA rankings, announced Tuesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The two had previously been ranked as high as No. 3, during the fall of 2017. They earned All-America honors in doubles last season.
Blumberg and Kelly are 12-3 overall this spring and 5-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.
It's Kelly's second time atop the doubles rankings. His sophomore season, 2015-16, he was ranked No. 1 in doubles with then-senior Brett Clark.
As a team, the Tar Heels (16-4, 7-1 ACC) are ranked No. 8 this week. In singles, Blumberg is No. 2, freshman Benjamin Sigouin is No. 33 and Kelly is No. 100.
Carolina returns to action this weekend, hosting Georgia Tech Saturday at noon and Clemson Sunday at 1 p.m. at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
