Members of the University of North Carolina men's tennis team will head south to Columbia, S.C., to begin play in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Carolina Regional beginning on Thursday.
The regional comes on the heels of last month's ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., and is a second opportunity to earn bids to the NCAA Singles & Doubles Championships, which will begin on November 17 in Orlando.
Each of the 2026 ITA men's and women's regional championships will have a draw size of the following: singles—64 main draw and 64 qualifying and doubles—64 main draw.  Both singles finalists and the doubles champion will earn berths into the NCAA Individual Championships.
Action this week will start on Thursday morning, and virtually the full Tar Heel squad expects to play in Columbia at the Carolina Tennis Center.
Last year at the Carolina Regional in Cary, N.C., Tar Heels Chris Xu and Niels Ratiu earned an NCAA trip by topping teammates Ian Mayew and Kase Schinnerer in the doubles final. Later last season, Carolina players earned five NCAA bids at ITA Sectionals, which were held in Chapel Hill at the Chewning Tennis Center. Ratiu, Mayew and Roan Jones grabbed singles berths, while Mayew and Schinnerer qualified in doubles.
