
Criswell Earns National Honor After 13 Strikeout Performance

Cooper Criswell was named the Golden Spikes Award Gold Standard Performance of the Week by USA Baseball after this 13 strikeout performance against Miami on Saturday, April 7. After coming on in relief, Criswell went 5.2 innings and struck out 13 of the 20 batters he faced and conceding only three hits and one run while allowing no walks. The 13 strikeouts are the most ever by a relief pitcher during the Mike Fox era, and the most by any pitcher this season for the Tar Heels.
On the season, the junior transfer from Southern Union State Community College holds a 2-2 record and a 1.80 ERA while he is second on the team in appearances with 16 and has 38 strikeouts and only seven walks. In ACC play, the Carrollton, Ga., native ranks 4th in the ACC with a 1.76 ERA.
