No. 1 Tar Heels Host Virginia Friday Afternoon

CHAPEL HILL - The top ranked North Carolina women's tennis team returns home for the first time in nearly three weeks to host No. 21 Virginia from the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center at 3 p.m.
The Tar Heels, ranked No. 1 for the last nine weeks according to the Oracle/ITA Team Rankings, have won their last four matches heading into this weekend's bout with the Cavaliers. UNC is 20-2 overall in the spring dual season, and is tied with Duke atop the Atlantic Coast Conference standings with a 9-1 mark against the league.
Virginia (13-5, 7-3) sits in fifth place in the ACC after winning five of its last six matches, including a 6-1 victory over in-state rival Virginia Tech last weekend in Blacksburg. The Cavaliers feature one ranked singles player, No. 43 Rosie Johanson, and the 22nd ranked doubles tandem of Meghan Kelley and Johanson.
Virginia is led by first-year head coach Sara O'Leary, who under her maiden name of Anundsen, won a 2007 NCAA doubles title at North Carolina and also served as an assistant coach at UNC for six seasons. UVa's assistant coach is Gina Suarez-Malaguit, also a former Tar Heel All-America that was named the 2013 ACC Player of the Year.
Carolina features five singles players ranked this week: No. 18 Makenna Jones, No. 25 Alle Sanford, No. 33 Sara Daavettila, No. 79 Jessie Aney and No. 88 Alexa Graham.
Jones and Graham both own a perfect 10-0 record against the ACC thus far this spring, while Graham is 21-0 overall in dual matches in 2018.
In doubles, Aney and Graham rank No. 2 nationally, and the combo of Daavettila and Sanford are No. 16.
UNC visits Clemson on Sunday at 12 p.m.
