Carolina Beats Virginia 2-1, Only Unbeaten Team In U.S. Spring Program
April 7, 2018 | Men's Soccer
North Carolina kept their perfect spring record in tact after defeating Virginia 2-1 in Chapel Hill on Saturday, April 7 at Finley Soccer Fields. Two second half goals from Carolina completed the comeback as Tar Heels are now 3-0 and the only remaining unbeaten team in the inaugural U.S Soccer Spring College Program.
On a cold, rainy afternoon the Tar Heels conceded an early goal to the Cavaliers as they went down 1-0 within the first five minutes. In the second half Carolina tied the game on an own goal deflection from the Cavaliers before Mauricio Pineda scored the game-winner, his third of the spring season.
James Pyle picked up the win in goal for the Heels as they have now outscored its opponents 10-2 in its first three games.
Carolina's next game will take place on April 14 in Winston-Salem at 7 p.m. as they will face Wake Forest. The U.S. Soccer Spring College Program will culminate on April 21 back at Winston-Salem as they face off against rival Duke.
