No. 4 North Carolina continued their hot streak with an 11- 5 win over UNC Asheville on Tuesday at Boshamer Stadium. The Heels used a 10-run fifth inning to take the lead and never looked back en route to their eighth consecutive win as they moved to 32-13 on the season.

The game saw little action through the first four innings, with each team only recording three hits and neither getting on the board.

Taylor Sugg rolled through the first four innings on the mound before running into trouble in the top of the fifth. After a single by Brandon Lankford and a walk to Kole Harris, Joe Zayatz drove them both in with a two RBI single to give UNC Asheville a two-run lead.

Carolina responded in a big way in the bottom of the frame by putting up a ten spot. UNC Asheville used five different pitchers and issued a combined seven walks in the inning, three with the bases loaded. The Heels had just four hits in the inning, the biggest being a Brandon Martorano two-run double to left to plate Ashton McGee and Brandon Riley. The two other runs scored via wild pitch and hit by pitch. In total, the Heels sent 14 batters to the plate in the inning.

Asheville got a couple back in the top of the seventh. A pair of doubles, a costly error, and a sac fly led to a pair of runs and cut the deficit to 10-4.

The Heels got one of those runs back in the bottom of the seventh courtesy of a Josh Ladowski two-out triple off the wall in left center for his second triple of the season. Michael Busch was then able to drive him in and make it 11-4.

In the ninth inning, Asheville made one final push, loading the bases with nobody out. A tough hop ultimately got by Busch at first to plate a run, but Brett Daniels entered the game and picked up three straight strikeouts to end it.

Joey Lancellotti picked up the win on the mound throwing just 1.1 innings. Tyler Baum, Kyle Blendinger, Bo Weiss and Hansen Butler also all got time on the mound.

Carolina gets the weekend off for exams and will return to action next Tuesday at home against Richmond at 6 p.m. before traveling to Coastal Carolina next Wednesday.
