Tar Heels Travel To Davidson
• No. 5 North Carolina hits the road for the first of a tough four-game road trip with games at Davidson, at Duke, at UNCG and culminating at Notre Dame.
• The Tar Heels hold a 25-5-2 all-time record over Davidson, but the last four games have all been decided by one goal as the Heels and Wildcats have split them 2-2.
• The last time Carolina traveled to Davidson in 2011, they outshot the Wildcats 16-3 but left with a 1-0 defeat when Davidson scored in the 82nd minute.
• That loss was the the second, and last, loss of the season for the eventual national champions in Carlos Somoano's first season as head coach.
Tar Heels Open ACC Play With A Win, Again
• No. 5 North Carolina defeated Pitt 2-1 in double OT on Saturday, Sept. 8, to open ACC play 1-0.
• UNC has not lost an ACC opener since 2011 (Carlos Somoano's first season), where they lost to Virginia Tech 1-0 in double OT. The Tar Heels went on to win the national championship that year.
• The last time the Tar Heels didn't open the ACC with a win was in 2013 with a 1-1 tie against Notre Dame.
Garvanian Scores First Goal, Game-Winner
• Freshman Milo Garvanian scored his first collegiate goal in style on Saturday against Pittsburgh with the game winner in the 109th minute.
• Garvanian also recorded an assist in the previous game against Jacksonville for his first career collegiate point.
Suffocating Defense
• In three of its last four games, the Tar Heel defense has not allowed their opponents to register more than three total shots or more than two shots on goal.
• Against No. 2 Indiana, the Tar Heels held the Hoosiers to 3 total shots, the least amount in any game for Indiana in 2004.
• Carolina followed up that performance by only allowing three shots with one on goal against William & Mary in the third game of the season.
• Against Jacksonville on Monday, Carolina held the Dolphins to 2 total shots and no shots on goal.
• Carolina has only given up one first half goal all season.
