Hayden Earns ACC Honor

GREENSBORO, N.C. (The ACC.com) – North Carolina's Catherine Hayden has been named ACC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week, as announced on Tuesday by the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Tar Heel forward shares this week's offensive honor with Duke's Rose Tynan. Boston College goalkeeper Sarah Dwyer was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
Hayden, a junior from Greenwich, Conn., scored the gamewinner in both Carolina victories last weekend. In UNC's ACC opener at Louisville on Friday, she assisted on the tying goal and scored the go-ahead after the 11th-ranked Cardinals took an early lead. The Tar Heels went on to a 3-1 win.
On Saturday in a neutral-site matchup, Hayden scored the opening goal in a 6-0 win over California. She also had the third goal of the day to bring her season total to six, which ranks second on the team.
Hayden is the third Tar Heel to earn ACC weekly honors this fall, following awards for Erin Matson (Offensive Player of the Week, Aug. 28) and Ashley Hoffman (Defensive Player of the Week, Sept. 4.
The top-ranked Tar Heels (6-0) are in action today, hosting Appalachian State at 6 p.m. at Carolina Field Hockey Stadium.
