Hoffman Honored By ACC

Senior Ashley Hoffman has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week following the Tar Heels' 2-0 win at Duke on Friday. Hoffman shares this week's defensive honor with Boston College goalkeeper Sarah Dwyer. Wake Forest forward Jule Grashoff was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week.

Hoffman, the team captain, anchors a Tar Heel defense that has earned five shutouts in eight games this season and has given up just three goals. She also shares the team lead in scoring with seven goals this fall.

The ACC weekly honor is her second this season. A first-team All-America selection in 2017, she was a preseason All-ACC pick for 2018.

Top-ranked UNC (8-0, 2-0 ACC) is in action Wednesday, hosting No. 15 Virginia for a noon game at Karen Shelton Stadium. The game was set to be played Sept. 14 but was rescheduled due to Hurricane Florence. Fans are invited to have lunch with the Tar Heels – outside food is allowed in the stadium and the first 200 fans in attendance will get free pizza.
