Hoffman Named ACC Defensive Player Of The Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. (The ACC.com) – North Carolina senior Ashley Hoffman has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the league.
Hoffman, a senior back from Mohnton, Pa., keyed the defensive effort as the Tar Heels earned two shutout wins over the weekend. Playing in the Conference Crossover in Philadelphia, North Carolina beat No. 10 Princeton 1-0 on Friday and host Penn 8-0 on Sunday. Carolina limited Princeton to seven shots and five corners and Penn to three shots and three corners.
As center back, she anchors a defense that has given up just two goals over the season's first four games.
Hoffman also contributed on the offensive end, scoring the Tar Heels' first two goals of the win over Penn, both on penalty corners. The team captain, she leads UNC in scoring the season with five goals.
Duke freshman Olivia Sahaydak earned Offensive Player of the Week honors.
The Tar Heels are on the road again this weekend, playing at Louisville on Friday and staying there to take on California Saturday in a neutral-site game.
