• Carolina went on a 20-0 run (part of a 32-9 run to end the first half). It was the first 20-point run since the Western Carolina game last year.
• In the first 8:07, Virginia Tech built a 22-13 lead. The Hokies scored 22 points on 15 possessions (1.47), while Carolina had 13 points on 17 posessions (.76). Over the next 11:53, the Tar Heels out-scored the Hokies, 32-9. In that stretch, UNC scored 32 points on 23 possessions (1.39), while Virginia Tech scored nine points on 22 possessions (.41).Â
• Carolina's points per possession for the game of 1.18 is a season best (previous 1.13 vs. UCLA).

• This was the 19th time a Roy Williams team played host to an ACC opponent that was ranked higher in the AP poll. UNC has now won four such games in a row and is 10-9 overall in those games.
• Carolina has scored 103 points against both of the top 10 teams (AP) it has played at home this season (103 vs. No. 4 Gonzaga on 12/15/18 and 103 vs. No. 10 Virginia Tech).

• Luke Maye tied his career high with four three-pointers.Â
• Five Tar Heel scored in double figures. UNC is 8-0 this year when five or more players score in double figures (it was the first time that list did not include the team's leading scorer, Cameron Johnson).
