North Carolina senior defender Alex Comsia has been named the 2018 Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and leads the sport's All-ACC Academic team, released Thursday by the league office.
Comsia, a business administration major, is joined on the team by Nils Bruening, also a business major. Both Comsia and Bruening graduated from UNC in December after stellar academic and athletic careers.
Both players also earned Academic All-America third team honors this fall and were invited to the MLS Player Combine earlier this month.
Comsia, a native of North Vancouver, British Columbia, was the 2018 ACC Defender of the Year and a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy. He earned All-ACC Academic honors for the fourth time in his career while also being named a 2018 First-Team All-American by United Soccer Coaches.
Bruening was named to the team for the third time. In 2018, he led UNC in shots, finishing with six goals and four assists.
