Five Tar Heels Competing In LPGA Qualifying Tournament

VENICE, Fla. — Five Tar Heels are making opening day appearances at the second stage of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament hosted from Oct. 14-17 on the Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Fla.
Four alumnae — Allie White ('12), Maia Schechter ('15), Leslie Cloots ('17) and Kelly Whaley ('19) — as well as current senior Brynn Walker will represent Carolina in the field of 188 competitors.
At the first stage of the 2019 LPGA and Symetra Tour Qualifying Tournament, Walker tied for 15th place with a 2-under-par total of 286 (71-74-69-72). Cloots finished three strokes back to tie for 35th, carding a 1-over-par 289 (70-75-69-75) through four rounds. Whaley tied for 45th place with a four-round total of 290 (73-73-73-71) to finish 2-over.
Schechter has made a number of appearances on the Symetra Tour, most recently tying for eighth place at the Symetra Tour Championship in Daytona Beach, Florida with an 11-under-par 277 (-11) and a low round of 68.
White also competed in the 2019 Symetra Tour Championship in early October. Her best professional finish was in June 2015 when she tied for sixth place at the Four Winds Invitational with a 6-under-par 210.
Competition format for Stage II includes 72-hole stroke play with no cuts between the four rounds.

Tar Heels advancing to the Q-Series will compete in Pinehurst, N.C., from Oct. 23 through Nov. 2.
Players who complete 72 holes but do not advance to the Q-Series will receive 2020 Symetra Tour status.
