Carolina Hosts Georgia Friday At Koury Natatorium

CHAPEL HILL --- The University of North Carolina swimming and diving teams will return to competition after a three-week layoff Friday when the Tar Heels host Georgia at 3 p.m. at Koury Natatorium. Carolina is coming off a sweep of East Carolina on Oct. 4, with the men edging the Pirates 157-143 and the women notching a dominant 170-115 victory. The Bulldog squads are both ranked in the top 25 (women 12th, men 14th) and are also 1-0 on the year following a sweep of Alabama Oct. 4 in Birmingham.
Sophie Lindner, Allie Reiter and Robyn Dryer paced the Tar Heel women's swimmers with two individual wins each in the victory over ECU. Emily Grund added a pair of diving wins for Carolina, which received votes in this week's CSCAA dual meet poll.
The Carolina men were dominant in the freestyle events against ECU, with Jack Messenger (50), Tomas Sungaila (200), Dimitrios Dimitriou (500) and Nick Palmer (1000) posting wins. Tyler Hill added a victory in the 100 back and both Tar Heel relays were winners, including the 400 free relay that clinched the meet. Andrew Owsiany led the men's divers against the Pirates, winning at 3 meters and placing second at 1 meter.
Admission to the meet is free for all spectators and parking will be available in the Manning Lot adjacent to Koury.
