Hendry Earns ACC Honor For Second Consecutive Week
October 8, 2019 | Field Hockey
For the second week in a row, junior goalkeeper Amanda Hendry has been honored by the Atlantic Coast Conference. The league announced has been named ACC Field Hockey Co-Defensive Player of the Week, after winning the award outright last week.
Â
Hendry was in goal for all 60 minutes of a shutout win over No. 2 Duke on Friday. She made four saves in the 2-0 Carolina victory, a matchup between the nation's top-ranked teams. No. 1 UNC improved to 10-0 on the season and 3-0 in ACC play with the win.
Â
Hendry shares the honor with Louisville's Carter Ayars. Boston College's Fusine Govaert was named Offensive Player of the Week.
Â
A starter in all 10 games this fall, Hendry has allowed just seven goals, with six coming in the season's first three games. Over the past seven, the Tar Heels have five shutouts, including the past three games. She has given up just one goal over her past 327 minutes of play.
Â
The Tar Heels hit the road this weekend for a pair of games in New York. On Saturday they'll play an ACC game at Syracuse and on Sunday they'll step out of conference to take on Albany.
