Tar Heels Kick Off Jednak Era At Temple Open

The North Carolina fencing team opens the 2019-20 season this weekend, competing at the Temple Open in Philadelphia. Matt Jednak, a former UNC fencer and assist coach, will make his head coaching debut on Saturday as the Tar Heel women compete. The men's team fences on Sunday.

The 40th-annual Temple Open will include nearly 500 fencers representing approximately 30 schools. Hosted at the Liacouras Center, it's the nation's largest collegiate fencing competition.

Fencing begins on both Saturday and Sunday at 8:30 a.m. and will run through approximately 6 p.m.

The Temple Open is the first of three competitions for UNC this month. After this weekend, the Tar Heels will return to Philadelphia Nov. 16-17 for the Elite Dual Meets, then travel to the Penn State Open Nov. 23-24. After that, the team will look ahead to 2020.
