Bell & Dorrance Win Major ACC Awards

Six Tar Heels named to All-ACC Teams; two to All-Freshman Team.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Six members of the Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season champion University of North Carolina women's soccer team have been named to the All-ACC teams announced Thursday by the league office.

Three Tar Heels were named first-team All-ACC, two were chosen second-team All-ACC, one was tapped as third-team All-ACC and two Tar Heels were chosen for the ACC All-Freshman Team.

North Carolina head coach Anson Dorrance was selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference coach of the year for the 12th time in his career. He has won the award in 1987, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1996, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2018 and 2019.

Freshman defender Maycee Bell of Wichita, Kan., was selected as the ACC Freshman of the Year, the third time in the last four years and fourth time in the last six years the freshman of the year has been a Tar Heel. Recent winners include midfielder Megan Buckingham in 2014, midfielder Bridgette Andrzejewski in 2016 and forward Alessia Russo in 2017.

This year's All-ACC first-team selections include junior forward Alessia Russo of Kent, England, junior defender Emily Fox of Ashburn, Va., and sophomore midfielder Brianna Pinto of Durham, N.C. Russo was tapped as first-team All-ACC for the third straight year while both Fox and Pinto made the first team for a second successive season. Fox was an All-ACC third-teamer as a freshman in 2017.

A pair of Tar Heel defenders – freshman Maycee Bell of Wichita, Kan., and junior Lotte Wubben-Moy of London, England, were named to the All-ACC second team. That was the first All-ACC honors of their careers. Junior midfielder Tyler Otto was named third-team All-ACC. The Apex, N.C., native was a third-team selection in 2017 and a first-team honoree in 2018.

The Tar Heels defeated Notre Dame 3-0 last Sunday in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals. They will play NC State Friday at 5 p.m. in the ACC Tournament semifinals at Sahlen's Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.

Carolina is 17-1-1 overall and it won its 23rd ACC regular season championship in history with a 9-0-1 mark. The Tar Heels completed a third straight ACC regular season without a loss as UNC is 27-0-3 in conference matches over the past three campaigns.
