Final Spring Scrimmage Ends In 1-1 Tie

Chapel Hill, NC - Sunday's final preseason scrimmage ended in a 1-1 tie as pitching dominated the day. Navy had six base hits to five for Blue, and neither squad committed an error in the nine-inning scrimmage.
Navy's Jackson Hesterlee's single to right drove in Danny Serritti for the game's first run in the top of the sixth. Blue promptly tied the score in the bottom of the inning when Caleb Roberts singled to score Ike Freeman. Hesterlee was 2-4 with one RBI and Serretti was 2-4 with one run scored. They were the only players with multiple base hits. Freeman and Angel Zarate both had doubles for the only extra base hits of the day.
Austin Love pitched 5.0 scoreless innings while giving up four hits and striking out eight while walking none. Andrew Grogan gave up one run in 5.0 innings on four hits while striking out seven. Bennett Nance, Austin Elliott, Hansen Butler and Davis Palermo all saw action in relief.
Carolina will open the 2019 season this Friday at 3:00 p.m. at Boshamer Stadium against Xavier in the first game of a three-game series.
