UNC Falls At Georgia Tech

The UNC men's tennis team fell 4-3 at Georgia Tech Friday, playing on the outdoor courts at the Yellow Jackets' Ken Byers Tennis Complex. The loss was the first in conference play this season for the Tar Heels, who are now 9-3 overall and 2-1 in the ACC. Georgia Tech improved to 7-6 overall and 2-2 in ACC play.
Carolina returns to action quickly, playing at Clemson on Sunday afternoon.
Friday in Atlanta, UNC opened with the doubles point, taking wins on Court 1 and Court 2. In the top spot, junior William Blumberg and senior Blaine Boyden beat Tech's Carlos Divar and Phillip Gresk, 6-1. Junior Simon Soendergaard and sophomore Mac Kiger then won 6-2 on Court 2 to claim the point for Carolina.
The Tar Heels stretched their lead to two with the first singles point, by freshman Brian Cernoch. On Court 4 he beat Chris Yun in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
The Yellow Jackets took the next one, as Brandon Freestone beat Soendergaard on Court 6.
UNC moved within a point of the team win with a victory on Court 1, where Blumberg, currently ranked at No. 47, beat No. 30 Divar, 7-6(4), 6-2.
With Carolina up 3-1, the hosts took the final three singles matches to claim the victory.
On Court 2, sophomore Benjamin Sigouin fell to Gresk, 7-6(5), 6-2.
On Court 3, Andrew Li beat Tar Heel junior Josh Peck, 6-4, 7-6(1).
The match came down to Court 5, where Boyden bounced back to take the second set but eventually fell to Pablo Schelcher, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
