Fourteen Tar Heels Earn Field Hockey Academic Honors

Fourteen UNC field hockey players have been named to the Zag Sports Tours/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, announced Monday by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. The National Academic Squad program honors student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the 2018-19 academic year.

Tar Heels honored are Bryn Boylan, Leila Evans, Malin Evert, Morgan Goetz, Feline Guenther, Cassie Halpin, Catherine Hayden, Julia Herrington, Erin Matson, Abby Pitcairn, Megan Ragusa, Meredith Sholder, Eva Smolenaars and Cassie Sumfest.

Seniors Evans and Goetz were honored for the fourth time in their careers and Evert, also a senior, was honored for the third time.

Earing a second honor were Boylan, Guenther, Hayden, Herrington, Ragusa, Sholder and Sumfest. Smolenaars, a sophomore, and Halpin, Matson and Pitcairn, all freshmen, were honored for the first time. Â
