Carolina Rowing Adds To Stellar Incoming Class
March 8, 2019 | Women's Rowing
As the Tar Heels prepare to open the 2019 racing season on Saturday, North Carolina announced Friday that it has signed four high school student-athletes to letters of intent. Julia Carden, Hannah Davis, Julia Hunt and Jessica Judge will join the UNC rowing program in August. They'll be part of an incoming class that also includes 10 signees from the fall signing period.
Â
"These four add additional strength to what was already one of our deepest and fastest classes ever," said UNC Assistant Head Coach Anthony Brock, who coaches the freshman squad and oversees recruiting. "We're seeing the sport of rowing making great strides in North Carolina, and these four are examples of that. They're talented rowers and a coxswain from strong club programs, and we're excited to have them join our team."
Â
Spring 2019 signees:
Â
Julia Carden
Hometown: Cary, N.C. (Panther Creek)
Rowing Club/Team: Jordan Lake Rowing Club
Why Carolina? "Carolina has always been my dream school because of the highly competitive academic and athletic programs they offer. After spending two summers at UNC Rowing Camp and watching the women's team practice on the lake where my club rows, I knew I wanted to row at Carolina."
Â
Hannah Davis
Hometown: Apex, N.C. (Apex Friendship)
Rowing Club/Team: Triangle Rowing Club
Why Carolina? "I chose Carolina because I've loved it ever since I attended rowing camp there two years ago. It gives me the opportunity to further my rowing career while being challenged academically. I live nearby so I've grown up with the University in my life and it's great to be able to call it home. I'm excited to start the next chapter of my life as a Tar Heel at Carolina."
Â
Julia Hunt
Hometown: Charlotte, N.C. (Myers Park)
Rowing Club/Team: Belmont Rowing Center
Why Carolina? "I chose Carolina because I love the community — the community of knowledge on campus, the greater Chapel Hill community, and the community on the rowing team. From the moment I toured, I've known Carolina was the place for me."
Â
Jessica Judge
Hometown: Raleigh, N.C. (Cary Academy)
Rowing Club/Team: Triangle Rowing Club
Why Carolina? "I chose Carolina because of the perfect balance of strong academics, athletics, and community. The campus is incredible and a great place to call home. Also, the support and resources for athletes are completely unparalleled."
