Tar Heels Head to ACC Championships
April 17, 2019 | Women's Golf
CHAPEL HILL - The Tar Heels' women's golf team will take to Sedgefield Country Club on Thursday for the first round of the ACC Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina. From April 18-20, the 12-team field will navigate the ever-challenging Donald Ross designed par-72, 6,089-yards course.
Â
The Tar Heels lineup will consist of Brynn Walker, Jennifer Zhou, Ava Bergner, Kelly Whaley and Mariana Ocano.
Â
Â
Coming off of their best stretch of finishes all season, with top-10 finishes in its last three events, the Tar Heels are poised to perform well.
Â
"The ACC is a very very strong conference," head coach Jan Mann said. "With that being said, I feel like when we are playing at our best, we can compete against anybody. I really want this team to be focused on what they need to do, and not worry about anybody else. I want them to play to the best of their ability, and if they do that then I think we will have a very good event."
Â
A collection of 12 teams will compete for the conference championship, as well as an automatic bid for the NCAA Regional tournament. The field features ten teams that are ranked in the Top 50 of the latest Golfstat rankings, including six in the Top 30. Additionally, there are 16 student-athletes that are currently ranked in GolfStat's Top 100.
Â
Last year, the Tar Heels finished tied for eighth at the conclusion of the tournament at the Grandover Resort East Course. Looking to build off her solid performance at the Brickyard Collegiate, Mariana Ocano, was the top finishing Tar Heel a year ago and tied an ACC Championship record with a 5-under 67 in round two.
Â
The tournament will begin with on Thursday morning, with golfers teeing off on holes No. 1 and No. 10 at 9:00. The Tar Heels will begin its round on the first hole at 9:50 a.m.
Â
Tournament play will be carried live on ACC Network Extra beginning at 2 p.m. on Friday and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Course Information
The Donald Ross designed golf course at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro opened for play in 1926. Since that time, it has fueled Greensboro's passion for golf and attracted tournament play to the Triad. The par-72 course offers five sets of tees to offer fun and challenge to golfers of all skill levels. It is home to the Wyndham Championship, and the only Ross course in the country to host a regular event on the PGA Tour.
