Weather Worries Push UNC's ACC Opener To Duke Friday at Noon

The North Carolina men's tennis team, seeded third in the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship field, opens play Friday against Louisville. With stormy weather headed for the Triangle area, the matchup has been moved from Cary Tennis Park to the indoor courts at Duke and will begin at noon, 30 minutes later than originally scheduled.

The Blue Devils' Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center is located at 2300 Duke University Road in Durham. The first match of the day there is NC State vs. Miami at 9 a.m., followed by the UNC-Louisville match. The UNC women play at 3 p.m. against either Georgia Tech or Syracuse.

There will be no charge for admission to any of the matches played at Duke on Friday.

Louisville beat Georgia Tech 4-3 Thursday at Cary Tennis Park to advance to Friday's matchup with the Tar Heels. The UNC-UL meeting is the second in less than a week: The teams wrapped up the regular season against each other last Sunday (April 14) in Louisville, with UNC winning 4-0.

Friday's matchup will be the first-ever in ACC tournament play for Carolina and Louisville.

Ninth-ranked UNC (17-5, 9-3 ACC) is playing for its 26th ACC Championship, more than any other program. The Tar Heels were the tournament runner-up last season, falling to Wake Forest in the final.
