Carolina Outlasts Louisville, Pickett Resets UNC Saves Record

Led by a 4-for-5 outing by Kristina Burkhardt, Carolina slugged 14 hits despite falling behind early in the game to fight back for the victory. Starting pitcher Hannah George struck out four in her 13th win in 4.2 innings while Pickett closed out the game to overtake the career saves record previously held by Lisa Norris (2006-09) at 11.

Coming from behind for the second time this week, Carolina's 17th ACC win is the most in a season for the Tar Heels since 2008 and the second-most in program history. UNC will play for the sweep at Ulmer Stadium Sunday at 1 p.m. UNC improves to 33-15, 17-6 in conference play. Louisville falls to 32-17, 11-9 in conference.

Key Moments
» Taylor Roby's RBI-single through the right side gave Louisville a 1-0 lead in the first as Sidney Melton crossed the plate after reaching on an error.
» The Tar Heels responded with five runs in the second inning on four hits. A pair of walks and a base knock by Abby Settlemyre set up for a pinch-hit RBI-single by Lexi Godwin to knot the game at one. Burkhardt and Kiani Ramsey each logged two-run singles in the second to up the score to five.
» Louisville answered back with a three-run shot by Darrianne Hale, cutting the score to 5-4.
» Following a double by Burkhardt, Pickett cleared the park for her seventh home run of the season, extending Carolina's lead to three runs.
» George struck out the side in the fourth to total four on the day.
» Louisville's Megan Hensley struck the Cards' second home run of the game to cut the game back to one run. Following two outs and a pair of singles, Pickett took over in relief and struck out the final batter of the frame.
» UNC continued to attack, scoring three runs on two outs in the seventh. Campbell Hutcherson scored Settlemyre from second while Burkhardt drove in two more runs on a single to center, finalizing Carolina's score at 10.
» The Cardinals continued to fight as Kyra Snyder sent a solo-shot to center in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough for the win.

» Tossing 2.1 innings of relief, Pickett earned her 12th career save to set a new program record. Previously, Lisa Norris picked up 11 from 2006-09.
» Carolina's 17 ACC wins is the most in a season for the Tar Heels since 2008 (18).
» In addition to Burkhardt's four-hit day, Settlemyre was 3-for-3 at the plate and Leah Murray had two hits.
» UNC matched its season-best winning streak at five games.
» UNC scored 10+ runs for the third time this season.
