Four Tar Heels Earn IWLCA All-America Honors
June 12, 2019 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL – Four University of North Carolina women's lacrosse players earned spots on the 2019 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-America teams, the IWLCA announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomores Jamie Ortega, an attacker, and Emma Trenchard, a defender who won Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors, made the first team. Junior attacker Katie Hoeg earned second-team honors, and sophomore goalie Taylor Moreno grabbed third-team accolades.
Ortega, Trenchard and Moreno previously earned First-Team All-ACC honors, while Hoeg was on the second team.
Ortega won the ACC Tournament Most Valuable Player honors this season while also tallying a school-record 112 points, becoming the first Tar Heel to reach the 100-point plateau.
Trenchard previously had joined Ortega on Inside Lacrosse's first-team All-America squad and in this month's U.S. National Team training camp in Maryland.
Hoeg followed Ortega as the second UNC player to record 100 points in a season, finishing with 104 points and a school-record 73 assists this spring. She is already Carolina's career assist leader with 132 after just two years as a starter.
Moreno also is in the U.S. team camp after a season that saw her earn second-team All-America honors from ILWomen. She had 11 games with double-digit saves in 2019, including all three NCAA Tournament games.
The Tar Heels went 17-4, won their fourth consecutive ACC championship and advanced to the NCAA semifinals for the eighth time in 11 years in 2019.
