Five Tar Heels Earn All-ACC Academic Recognition
June 19, 2019 | Women's Rowing, Academics
Five UNC rowers have been named to the 2019 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team, announced Wednesday by the league. May graduates Paige Colpo, Margaret High and Kelly Williams were joined on the team by rising senior Sally Stanley and rising junior Lauren Ferner.
Â
The honor takes into account both athletic and academic achievements.
Â
Colpo, a media & journalism and peace, war & defense double major, is from Cary, N.C., and was recognized for the third year in a row.
Â
Ferner, a biology major from Corning, N.Y., was named to the team for the first time.
Â
High, a media & journalism major from Whiteville, N.C., was honored for the second year.
Â
Stanley, a philosophy and political science double major from Philadelphia, Pa., is also a two-time honoree.
Â
Williams, an environmental science major from Chevy Chase, Md., was honored for the third time.
Â
A total of 61 ACC student-athletes rowers and coxswains earned the recognition. Virginia's Heidi Long was named the ACC Rowing Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Â
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
Â
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
