Whaley Leads Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic In Professional Debut

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – In her Symetra Tour debut, 2019 graduate Kelly Whaley is tied for the field lead after the opening round of the Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic at the par 72, 6,441-yard Brook-Lea Country Club course Thursday in Rochester, N.Y.
Whaley shot 66 (-6) with five birdies on the front nine, rounding out the day with eight total in her first round as a professional. Min-G Kim shares the lead with a 66 on seven birdies.
Fellow Carolina alum, Miami Schechter carded 70 (-2) with three birdies on day one. Tar Heels Rachel Jones, Leslie Cloots and Catherine O'Donnell shot 74 (+2), 75 (+3) and 78 (+6), respectively to begin the event.
O'Donnell will be the first to tee off for the Tar Heel alumnae in the second round at 7:41 a.m. on the 10th hole. Whaley begins at 7:52 a.m. on the first hole. Schechter, Jones and Cloots tee off in the afternoon Friday.
